The Advanced Hiking Group, depending upon interest, usually has an event every weekend, weather and leader's schedule permitting. The hikes tend to be cardiovascular, weight-bearing, aerobic activities, with an attempt to incorporate scenic and/or historical places for the spirit.
A $1.00 donation is requested for the Senior Center programs. Hikers who are ride-sharing are requested to contribute gas money with the driver commensurate to the distance driven.
Potential hikers must be experienced and conditioned; the pace is usually at least 2 mph. Hikes range from about 6 miles to possibly over 17 miles, with elevation gains usually between 1,000 and 3,000 vertical feet. Most hikes are around 8 to 12 miles (six to eight hours in duration), with 1,000 to 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
Required & Recommended Items
- Hiking boots are required
- Participants should bring nutritious lunches and snacks
- plenty of water (two to four or more quarts, depending upon the length of the hike and time of year)
- personal needs
- wear appropriate clothing
- dark glasses
- tie-down hats are highly recommended year-round items
- bring mosquito repellant as necessary
No dogs are allowed on any hike.
Each hiker will be required to sign the liability waiver and release form.
All hikers must be pre-approved by the leader.
