CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Nevada Triad presents Extreme Heat, a presentation designed to help people become more aware about the dangers of extreme heat and how to avoid them, at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Friday, Aug. 10, at 11:45 a.m. Jessica Rapp and Lauren Staffen from Carson City Health and Human Services will lead the discussion. “It is important for everyone of all ages to understand the dangers of extreme heat and how it will affect the body’s ability to cool.” Rapp, said. “Adults over the age of 65, children younger than two, and people with chronic diseases are at greatest risk for heat-related illnesses.”
As the temperatures increase, take steps to stay cool, remain hydrated, and keep informed, Rapp said. Getting too hot can make people sick. While heat-related deaths and illness are preventable, many people die from extreme heat each year. “Two of the most common hot weather related health problems are heat exhaustion and heat stroke,” Rapp said. “Your best defense against heat-related illness is prevention. We have a few tips to help you tackle the hot weather and stay healthy.” In addition, the presentation will also include a question and answer period.
The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Raffle tickets will be handed at the door for the chance to win a 4-pack of Reno Aces baseball game tickets sponsored by the Reno Aces. Carson City Triad provides health and safety related information monthly at the Senior Center. Triad is a collaboration between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department and Senior Center.
